Congratulations to all who organized last night’s WordCamp in the Fraser Valley. It was hosted by BlueFur at the Cascades Casino. Living in Vancouver, I first marvelled at the spacious venue with tons of free parking.
I had read about this WordCamp in Kulpreet Singh’s entry in WordPress.org Forums. From there I went to his site and learned more.
Were you there?
What were some of the things you learned?
Being new to blogging, there was plenty that I learned.
There were five excellent speakers: Dr. Raul Pacheco; Gary Jones of Bluefur on Business Blogging; Kulpreet Singh on WordPress Security; Rebecca Bollwitt aka Miss604 – what a great name for a Vancouver blogger; and John Chow on how to get more traffic to your blog. And did he have some interesting ways.
Dr. Raul Pacheco was already speaking when I arrived a few minutes late. (The traffic from Vancouver was stop/start all the way.) From him I learned the term “link love” and it makes a lot of sense. Find out who is linking to you and link back to their blog or business.
He also showed us his “Blog stats.” Dr. Pacheco: how did you get the “blog stats” option on your site?
He also recommended bloggers should get familiar with Wordpress FAQs. And he was the first of the evening to recommend getting on to twitter.com. Later, Rebecca Bollwitt – Miss604 – referred to twitter as a micro blogger. I see it something like a cross between Facebook and blogging. I’ll give it a try.
I’ll catch up later on all the rest of the great information I picked up last night. Congratulations and thanks to Gary Jones of BlueFur and to all the great presenters.
Best of health, naturally,
Nina
