The Avalon Dairy

My husband is one of those people who is not going to be giving up drinking cow’s milk anytime soon. He’s not going to give up drinking coffee either and he likes milk with his coffee!

So I thought the best thing I could do would be to buy him organic non-homogenized milk by Avalon. That’s the one in the bottle with the white lid, sold at places like Caper’s and Choices and the little store on Granville Island. They call it their standard.

Then one of our instructors said that you could buy milk and yogurt and other milk products directly from the Avalon Dairy at 5805 Wales Street (off 41st Avenue) in Vancouver. It’s in the middle of a built-up residential area and it took Vancouver city approval to allow the current development.

It was like attending a bee hive. Cars, people on foot, women with milk bottle trays, guys in trucks, were coming and going constantly. I browsed the coolers, deciding what to buy. They were actually out of plain yogurt, so I ended up buying some standard milk, some aged cheese, some cottage cheese, and ice cream!

It’s the fall, and here am I, buying ice cream! I haven’t eaten ice cream for years. But I’m going to have some after lunch today.

Best of health, naturally,
Nina
